Description
1959 Chevrolet Apache 36 Fleetside Four Wheel Drive NAPCO Pickup Truck
This beautiful 1959 Chevrolet Apache 36 Fleetside NAPCO pickup truck consumed three and one half years of full time work to bring it to this marvelous stage. You can look any place you can get to, even using a flashlight, and there is no place on this vehicle that does not look as good as the exterior does. The attention to detail and finish to the under dash area, fender wells, frame, drive train and underbody is just amazing. Smooth, clean and much better than the day it left the factory.
NAPCO, Northwestern Auto Parts Company, manufactured four-wheel drive automobile components and was based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. NAPCO helped the war effort during World War II by manufacturing specialized mechanical assemblies and individual parts that were tested in war conditions. From 1956 to 1959 you could order directly from General Motors a NAPCO Power-Pak option (RPO 690) that was factory installed on trucks with minimum modifications to the original chassis. In 1960 General Motors and NAPCO parted ways when GM made some major changes to their front suspension creating a situation where it was no longer compatible with the Power-Pak option without major changes. These trucks, such as this beautiful example in the photo, are considered to be highly collectible by NAPCO enthusiasts.
