Description
Bok Tower Gardens Reflection Pool Giant Victoria Longwood Hybrid Lily Pads
These massive Victoria Longwood Hybrid Lilies are planted in large 100 gallon submerged pots in the reflection pool every spring usually during late April to early in May when the water reaches about 70 degrees. These lilies need to be replanted on a yearly basis because in this section of central Florida they do not typically survive the winter months. The Victoria Longwood Hybrid Lilies start out with a seed roughly the size of a pea and the lily pads soon mature to about six to seven feet in diameter. The lily pads will normally reach full size in the month of June and will last until sometime in November. They are able to support in the neighborhood of 70 pounds of weight however they are very easily damaged by various animals or objects falling on them from the trees. These giant lilies are night bloomers that feature large flowers that are open for just two nights. On the first night the flowers bloom is pure white in color and on the second night they are bright pink in color. When the sun moves overhead, typically around nine in the morning the flowers will close.
