12th and 44th New York Infantry Monument Gettysburg
This castle styled monument, dedicated on July 3, 1893, is located near the summit of Little Round Top and is without question the largest and most expensive (11,000.00) regimental monument located on the battlefields of Gettysburg.
This castle styled monument is 44 feet in height and the interior chamber is 12 feet square representing the two regiments, the 12th and the 44th New York. The exterior dimensions of the monument range from 28 feet to 21 feet and is comprised of Prospect Hill undressed granite blocks and a stone base. At the top of the tower is the Maltese Cross symbol of the Fifth Army Corps.
