Description
1889 Boyd School House Berlin Ohio
The Boyd School House is a beautiful brick structure sitting on approximately one acre of land located on a small rise along a country road near Berlin, Ohio. The Boyd School was constructed in the year 1889 is an excellent example of the Italianate architectural style with its round arched windows and carved stone keystones. The Boyd School has been extremely well preserved throughout its long life. The Boyd School was used as a school house until 1952 and is the only restored one-room school house museum in Holmes County. The Boyd School is not only one of Holmes Countys oldest surviving schools it is also much more elaborate than the others. The first school that was located on this same site was constructed during the Civil War and that original framed structure was replaced by the current brick building in 1889.
