The Buick Special models were normally Buicks lowest priced models, and were the brands entry level full sized automobiles. The Special came out in 1936 as a full sized automobile and was produced through the 1958 model year. In 1961 the Special came back as a mid-sized vehicle and by 1970 the Special would no longer be available as a standalone model instead becoming an entry trim level option on Buick Century models in various years ranging from 1975 to 1996.
The entry level Buicks history has its beginnings based on the Buick Model 10 which was a companion to their first car the Buick Model B. The Model 10 was one of the independent brands that merged into the Buick line called the Janney.
