Description
1954 C1 Corvette - 2016 C7 ZO6 Corvette - Americas Sports Car Then And Now
The 1954 Corvette was not noticeably different from that of the original 1953 version. Several small modifications were made throughout the 1954 model year to make improvements upon the car. Some extra color options were added to the lineup in 1954 and included Pennant Blue, Sportsman Red, Black and Polo White. All 1954 Corvettes were supplied with red interiors with the only exception being the Pennant Blue model which had a beige interior. While new colors were available, the six-cylinder engine and Powerglide automatic transmission was the only powertrain available and it was not what sports car enthusiasts expected or wanted. Order guides for the 1954 Corvette listed several available options but all of the options were mandatory and all 1954 Corvettes were equipped the same other than their paint color. 3,640 1954 Corvettes were built, the price dropped almost twenty-one percent from the previous year but with the lack of performance and options the sales suffered badly with some Corvettes sitting on dealer lots for several years. At the end of 1954 there were nearly a third of the Corvettes unsold. A different story today, these older Corvettes are sought out and usually demand a high price from someone wishing to add one of these classic American sports cars to their collection.
This venerable 2016 C7 Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 is powered by an all new LT4 6.2L supercharged V8 engine that provides 650 horsepower and 650 pound feet of torque to quickly propel this amazing technologically advanced automobile down just about any road that is placed in its path. The first ZO6 option was offered on the 1963 C2 Split Window Corvette and only 199 were constructed (198 coupes 1 convertible) and was developed under the famed Corvette engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov. The latest models of the Corvette ZO6 are the fastest production cars to ever roll off of the General Motors assembly line. Long known as Americas Sports Car, the Chevrolet Corvette will forever hold a place of prestige in the chronicles of automotive history.
