Description
Frankenmuth Covered Bridge
This gorgeous wooden covered bridge was completed and placed in January of 1980. While certainly not the oldest covered bridge around, it is said to be the newest two lane, two sidewalk covered wood bridge in the world and Michigans largest covered wood constructed covered bridge. This bridge is 239 feet long, has a clear height of 14 feet 4 inches, contains 163,288 board feet of Douglas Fir, covered with a cedar shake roof of approximately 25,000 shingles and has a vehicle traffic lane that is 28 feet in width. When the bridge was placed, a team of oxen was used to pull the completed structure into place over a period of 12 days at a rate of travel of only three inches per minute.
