Description
In the middle 1700 time frame, indigo was a key cash crop in the South Carolina Low Country. Indigo, a plant that produces a blue dye upon extraction, was planted and harvested in the Charleston area. In 1850 a structure was constructed in Charleston to operate as a large warehouse for storing the indigo. The warehouse was converted to a highly recognized inn in 1979 and is now called the Indigo Inn and is located at the corner of Meeting Street and Pinckney Street in downtown Charleston, South Carolina.
