Description
John Brown Home and Farm
John Brown, along with his two sons, purchased the property the house and out buildings were built on in 1849 and over the years thanks to some excellent care the property and buildings remain intact and well preserved. The John Brown property is located a very short drive from the center of Lake Placid, New York and well worth the drive to go out and tour the home and property.
John Brown is buried on the farm just a few feet away from the front of his home. John Brown was hanged on December 2, 1859 for his raid on the U.S. Arsenal at Harpers Ferry and his body was returned to the farm and was buried on December 8, 1859. In 1899, the remains of several of John Browns followers who fought and died at Harpers Ferry were buried nearby in a small graveyard.
