Description
Letchworth State Park Lower Falls
Letchworth State Park is located approximately 35 miles southwest of Rochester, NY. The park is close to 17 miles in length and the Genesee River flows through the bottom of the 550 foot deep gorge that has formed over the course of time. The gorge at Letchworth State Park has been many times referred to at the Grand Canyon of the East, and in fact is quite impressive to view. The park features three very prominent waterfalls on the Genesee River, the Upper, Middle and Lower Falls and are all located in Portage Canyon in the southern section of the park. The Middle Falls are the largest of the three and is the most impressive, the Upper and Lower Falls are quite a bit smaller in size but are equally pleasant to view. The only trail that crosses over the Genesee River within the boundary of the park is a stone bridge located just a short distance north of the Lower Falls.
