Description
Thomas Edison Generator Smokestack St. Augustine
In 1887 Thomas Edison sent the needed equipment for an electrical power plant to be used at the Hotel Ponce de Leon in St. Augustine, Florida that Henry Flagler was putting up. The generators were powered by steam from large boilers used in a large building behind the hotel underneath of the 125 foot tall smokestack. The old smokestack has been preserved and the old boiler building that is still sits on top of has been repurposed for use at the now Flagler College. This photo was taken in September of 2012.
