Photo Taken May, 2017
When the Tucker was announced it was promoted as the first completely new car in fifty years and accentuated it exciting design and technical advances in an sophisticated post-war automobile. The somewhat ultramodern and streamlined body style was created by a former Auburn Automobile company designer named Alex Tremulis.
The vehicle was powered by a rear mounted six-cylinder Franklin 335 helicopter engine that had been modified for water cooling and connected to a Cord transmission. Safety features of the car included a pop-out windshield, a padded dash, padded door panels and a passenger area designed to protect occupants from crashes. A unique feature of the car was a center mounted headlight that turned with the steering wheel so as to help aid the driver in navigating corners. Production of all Tuckers ended in 1948.
