Artist's Description
1890 Old Mackinac Point Light
The Old Mackinac Point Light Station, located on the northern shore of Mackinaw City, Michigan, was put into use in 1890 to provide a safer passage for mariners through the Straits Of Mackinac which presented some significant hazards. This beautiful light station provided reliable and continuous service until 1957 when the Mackinac Bridge opened and since the Mackinac Bridge has lights on it at night, the bridge became a much better aid to navigation than the light. Wonderfully maintained historical light station located in a most scenic location with a fantastic view of the Mackinac Bridge.
