Description
Central Florida Primitive Baptist Church
This beautiful, historic, classic wood frame vernacular church structure, with Gothic Revival elements, is said to be the oldest building still used for religious services at its original site in Plant City, Florida. Plant City was founded in 1884 and records seem to indicate this church was constructed in the 1905 to 1917 year range with most of the historical records placing the construction time period between very late 1916 to early 1917. This elegant church has a very engaging symmetrical facade, front gable roof, a centrally located lancet stained glass window with Gothic tracery and smaller stained glass windows at each side above the entry doors. Each side of the church has a tall tower with small hipped roofs with the towers being pierced on all four sides by pointed arches of equal size with no glass in the openings. Originally called the Progressive Primitive Baptist Church the church is still in active service to the local community. It is currently the home to Primera Iglesia Bautista La Fe conducting regular religious services in this historic building. This structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, number 93000436
