Description
A view of the gardens and vineyards at Monticello that are located on the first level below the land where the Thomas Jefferson home is placed. At the time Jefferson built Monticello there were few if any trees on the main house level and in order to maintain an unobstructed view of the surrounding mountains and valleys all of the other housing, gardens, shops, kitchens and such were built on tiers below the house grounds. Underground rooms and pathways go from one side of the main level to the other so that people could move about without being seen or doing anything to obstruct the views.
