High Falls Park Alabama
High Falls in Alabama, on Town Creek, is in a relatively isolated part of the state and if one does not follow the map directions carefully you could easily become a little bit disoriented. Many call this one of Alabama’s backroads adventures. Once you arrive at the park there is a park office and gift shop along with a couple of picnic areas and restrooms. The parking lot is on the smaller side but unless you are there on a warm or hot weekend when it can become busy with the locals parking proves to not be an issue.
While not a particularly high waterfall, about 35 feet, it is a very nice 300 feet in width and located in a beautiful wooded area with very steep banks and in areas extremely steep cliffs that lead down to the water level at the river. There is also a very nicely formed arch on one side of the falls that adds to the overall beauty of the falls and provides a platform for the darning that are brave enough to jump into the waters below.
If you are planning on going to the base of the falls it is best to cross over the very nice bridge at the falls headwaters and then work your way down the very steep and heavily wooded bank. The park manager said that some people do make this trek but they do not recommend it. The areas across the bridge are, according to the park attendant, are not maintained.
