Pilot Mountain North Carolina
A remnant of prehistoric North America used for centuries as a landmark and one of the most distinctive natural features in North Carolina Pilot Mountain rises majestically from the surrounding landscape. Pilot Mountain is a metamorphic quartzite monadnock that has an elevation of 2,421 above sea level and is a part of the remains of the ancient chain of Sauratown Mountains. Now a state park, Pilot Mountain has several hiking trails, a visitor center and a very scenic road that takes you up to the parking lot where fantastic views of the surrounding area can be seen. There is a combination of geological, botanical, ornithological and wonderful scenic attributes that will assure one a most enjoyable visit to the mountain.
