Steam Locomotive Number 110 Black Hills Central Railroad
This steam locomotive, number 110, was built in 1928 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the Weyerhaeuser Timber Company of Vail, Washington and is a 2-6-6-2T articulated Mallet. It later was at the Ray onier Lumber Company, received a tender from Rayonier number 101 and then was retired in 1968. The steam locomotive was then on display at the Wasatch Mountain Railway in Heber City, Utah and then after that was sold to the Nevada State Railway Museum. The Black Hills Central Railroad purchased the locomotive, number 110, in 1999 and brought the engine to South Dakota. A restoration on the engine was finished in the spring of 2001 and was placed into daily service by the Black Hills Central Railroad in Hill City, South Dakota. Number 110 is an oil burner that weighs in at 220,000 pounds with 187,264 pounds of that weight applied to it 44 inch drivers.
