Description
The Rhodesbilt Arcade Lake Wales Florida
The Rhodesbilt Arcade is one of Lake Wales most distinctive buildings and is located between Park Avenue and Stuart Avenue and provides entry from either street. Constructed between 1924 and 1926, this beautiful structure was built by Jesse T. Rhodes, a contractor and real estate agent. Mr. Rhodes had earned the nickname of Good as a result of the fine craftsmanship he applied to the buildings he constructed. Several of the early residences in Lake Wales were constructed by Mr. Rhodes as well.
Frequently designed in the Mediterranean Revival style of architecture, arcades were among the most fashionable commercial building types in Florida during the 1920s. Mediterranean influences are unmistakable on the Rhodesbilt Arcade and include a stylish curved parapet, an iron gated arched entrance and colorful decorative ceramic tiles.
