1890 Monroe County Courthouse located in Key West, Florida. Monroe County was established in 1823 and at that time occupied most all of the southern Florida peninsula. The court district has been reduced over time to the Florida Keys and some portions of the Everglades National Park. It was named for President James Monroe and Key West is the county seat. This beautiful structure is still in active daily usage as the county seat and is located about 260 feet from Mile Marker 0 on U.S. Highway 1.
