Description
1903 Otis Feaster Building
This large brick walled structure was constructed in Micanopy, Florida, by Otis Feaster in 1903. The retro Gothic Revival style of this building is similar to other commercial buildings on the Micanopy business square. The Feaster building has some interesting brick details with a decorative cornice and windows that are set off by a dripstone molding.
Located on the first floor there was a general store, a telephone office on the second floor and a theater on the third floor. The third floor was also used to provide higher education opportunities through lectures, concerts and other public events. These performances were often referred to as Chautauqua events. From the 1960s and into the 1980s the ground floor was home to an art gallery known as the Center for Modern Art.
