1960 Chevrolet El Camino Pickup
The first generation El Camino pickup ran from 1959 to 1960 with the second generation of the El Camino series ran from 1964 to 1987. The name El Camino means The Royal Road or The Kings Highway. The 1959 and 1960 Chevrolet El Camino was a combination of sedan and pickup truck with both year models retaining the same years taillights and rear fins of the Chevrolet Impala. The platform for these cars was bases on an existing and modified Brookwood two door station wagon which was basically an Impala with an extremely long roof line ending in a station wagon tailgate and window arrangement.
Engines that were available for the first generation El Caminos were a 235 cubic inch inline six cylinder, a 283 cubic inch V8 and a 348 cubic inch V8. Transmission offerings were that of a three speed manual, a four speed manual and the two speed Powerglide automatic transmission.
