Description
Whisky Creek Wooden Covered Bridge at Makers Mark Distillery
This beautiful setting, located down in Happy Hollow, is part of the Maker’s Mark Distillery (Burks Distillery) property and is part of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail experience. In the background can be seen the fabulous restaurant that serves a most fantastic lunch. The now restaurant, served as the visitors center at one time, was constructed around 1889 and was originally the distillers home. As you leave the restaurant and head towards and through the Whisky Creek bridge the shaded pathway will lead you down past the historic Quart House, which will be on your right, towards the distillery.
Makers Mark calls its product Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky using the spelling of Whisky that is preferred in Scotland, Canada and Japan. The usual spelling in the United States and Ireland is Whiskey. The Samuels family uses the Whisky spelling as a tribute to the founding familys Scottish roots. Makers is one of the best known and best-selling Bourbons in the country. A truly iconic brand.
The wife and I are part of the Ambassadors For Life program at Makers Mark and have been visiting the facility for over forty years. Any time we are traveling even remotely close to Loretto we stop in for a visit, a great lunch or snack, pick up some items from the gift shop and take a tour from time to time just to keep up with the latest changes within the facility, and there have been many over the years. Regardless of your liking Bourbon or not, a visit to Makers is a trip back in time where you will experience a long, deep, rich history that will impress even the non-drinker. This property is a National Historic Landmark and we have never been to any National Historic Landmark that we did not thoroughly enjoy, Makers is no exception and we are sure you will also enjoy your visit.
